We have a vacancy for a Cover Supervisor to support the work of our Faculties as we continue to improve standards. The main role will be to direct the learning of students in the absence of a Teacher, creating and maintaining a purposeful and orderly learning environment for students. To check that students’ have
appropriate equipment and materials to enable them to complete the tasks set and answering students’
questions about processes and procedures. To support expectations of student behavior in the classroom,
securing appropriate standards of discipline and ensuring that the Academy’s behavior management policy is adhered to.

You must be a team player, organized, versatile and who is able to motivate young people. You will have high expectations of students’ achievement and behavior, and be an effective communicator. You will also have

Cover Supervisor

32.5 hours/week, term time only
NJC Level 3D 7-11
Job Purpose: To cover in the absence of a teacher by supervising students who are carrying out
work set by the teacher in advance.
(NB: The DfES guidance on cover supervision, endorsed by all the signatories of the Workforce Agreement,
states that ‘cover supervision occurs when there is no active teaching taking place… pupils would continue
their learning by carrying out a pre-prepared exercise under supervision. Cover supervision should only be
used for short-term absences’.)
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To direct the learning of students in the absence of a teacher, creating and maintaining a purposeful
and orderly learning environment for students.
2. To ensure that the work set by the teacher is carried out in accordance with the Academy’s strategy.
To check that students’ have appropriate equipment and materials to enable them to complete the
tasks set and answering students’ questions about process and procedures.
3. To support expectations of student behavior in the classroom, securing appropriate standards of
discipline and ensuring that the Academy’s behavior management policy is adhered to.
4. To deal with any emergencies or problems which occur, in line with the Academy’s policies and
procedures.
5. To ensure that completed work is collected at the end of the lesson and returned to either the Head of
Faculty or the Administrative Assistant for Cover in the Main Office.
6. Leave the room in good order at the end of a lesson.
7. To return registers and other student information held in the cover folder to the Administrative
Assistant for Cover in the Main Office.
8. To report to the teacher/Head of Faculty/other relevant staff after the lesson, in accordance with the
Academy’s agreed referral procedures on any issues arising, including the behavior of students.
9. To assist in the general efficient operation of the Academy, including providing cover for other support
staff where necessary and as directed by the Executive Principal.
10. To supervise students on educational visits.
11. To invigilate examinations and assist in related administrative tasks.
12. To assist Faculties in general administrative tasks as appropriate.
13. To be part of the team covering registers.
14. To attend, where appropriate, staff meetings and participate in performance management
arrangements to include undertaking training and development as required.
15. To maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of Academy-related matters and to prevent
disclosure of confidential or sensitive information.
16. Follow Academy policies and procedures especially those relating to child protection and health and
safety.
17. To undertake tasks of a similar nature and level, as directed by the Vice-Principal.
